Regal Cinema is closing its Hollywood Hills branch, which had been the site of a controversial $1.8 million renovation project to the former film studio.
The closure is part of a $4.6 billion plan to improve the location and the entertainment district surrounding it.
Regal is closing the movie theater to “enhance and modernize” its existing movie theater and a theater at the Hollywood Hills resort, according to a statement from the company.
The new theater will be open in 2019.
Regal has been working on the Hollywood District revitalization since the early 1990s.
In 2010, it closed the Hollywood Heights location to make way for a hotel.
Regals Hollywood Hill location is now the location of a hotel and condominium complex.
