The LA Times reports that the cinema arts department at the Majestic Theatre in downtown LA has fired a fire-starting ball, crashed into a concrete wall and crashed into an auditorium, all to save itself from a potentially disastrous explosion.
The fire is being investigated as a result of the ball striking a concrete floor.
The cinema is currently closed and has a “temporary lockdown,” according to the LA Times.
The LA Fire Department was called to the scene around 2 p.m.
PDT and the theater was closed until 7 p.M. for an inspection.
The building’s director, Jeff Davis, told the LA Weekly that the incident was “a big shock” and that “the whole place is in shock.”
He added that the department had a “zero tolerance policy” for fires, and that there would be no refunds for tickets purchased at the cinema.
