Australia is facing a growing problem of online shopping after an influx of Australian movies and TV shows have been streaming online.
While the rise in online viewing has been fuelled by the arrival of Netflix, Amazon Prime Video and Amazon Prime, a growing number of Australian films and TV programmes are also being watched on streaming services.
The rise in streaming has also come as more Australians have chosen to stream their favourite TV shows and movies to their favourite devices such as smartphones and tablets.
As a result, Australia’s film and TV industry is struggling to maintain its position in the market as it looks to compete with a rapidly growing number in the US, the UK and elsewhere.
With a huge number of Australians streaming their favourite films and shows online, the Australian Entertainment and Media Authority has warned that the Australian film and television industry is vulnerable to the rise of streaming services like Netflix and Amazon as they struggle to maintain their foothold in the country.
“We’re seeing a rise in the number of viewers, so the availability of a large number of movies and shows is creating a real challenge,” ACCAI chief executive officer Andrew Lapp said.
“For example, many Australians who are watching Netflix or Amazon Prime will now be watching Australian films or TV shows on streaming.”
The availability of the same content is not enough to sustain the same audience.”ACCAI chief economist Greg Jericho said the industry had to ensure it had enough movies and television to fill the needs of its audience.”
In terms of Australian film or TV content, the problem is not so much the streaming of Australian television content, but the availability.”‘”
But the fact is that there are still a lot of Australian content available on streaming platforms.”

The movie and TV industries are in the same boat’The ACCAI report found the Australian entertainment and film industries were not yet ready to offer a consistent solution for online streaming of their films and television content.”
Our industry is in the exact same boat as the rest of the industry: there’s a lot we can’t offer to the consumer in the way of a consistent offering,” Jericho told the ABC.”
So we are in a situation where we’re offering a fairly standard solution that’s not very high-quality, but there are other options that offer better value.
“In Australia, streaming services such as Netflix, Prime Video, Amazon and Amazon Instant Video are also providing viewers with a wide variety of content, with more Australians than ever enjoying Netflix and its catalogue of original series, documentaries and feature films.
But despite the fact that many Australians have been watching Netflix and similar services, Jericho said it was not clear that the industry was in a position to offer the same level of quality content to its viewers.”
If we can offer that level of content to the Australian public that we’ve seen over the past decade and a half, then it’s hard to see why the industry is not able to deliver the level of service it’s been able to offer,” Jericho explained.”
There are a lot more people watching Netflix than there are watching Australian movies or TV.””
The movie industry is going through some rough times right now, but they’re not the only ones.”‘
There are many Australians watching Netflix’While the ACCAI’s warning does not suggest that Australians are watching fewer movies and TVs than they used to, Jericho acknowledged that the online streaming industry was struggling to keep up with the demand for its services.”
Australia is a big place,” Jericho noted.”
I think that we’re seeing the movie and film industry in the very same boat that the rest is.
“They are very busy, they are very competitive and they’re seeing some hard times right away.”
But it’s a tough place for them.”‘
We need to get on top of it’The Australian Film and Entertainment Commission (AFEC) said the country needed to get more involved with the online viewing of films and televisions.”
What is a major concern is the number and volume of Australians accessing these services,” chief executive Paul Kyncl said.
Mr Kyncle said the commission was monitoring the availability and quality of movies available for Australians to watch on streaming sites and was working with the industry to ensure Australians had access to quality films.”
A lot of our members are going to Netflix or a similar streaming service and they will then see what’s available,” he said.AFL chief executive Brendon Gale said the ACCI’s warning was a good first step.”
This is a positive development, and I’m pleased the ACCIC has been listening to the concerns of our member organisations,” he told the broadcaster.”
That’s the first step we need to take in terms of getting more Australians involved in the digital delivery of films.”‘
It’s not a bad thing’But ACC
