A cinema that is a “home to cinema” will open on Friday, September 11, 2019 in New Zealand, the New Zealand Film Corporation (NZFC) has announced.
The cinema, set to open at the Millennium Theatre in Wellington, is the first cinema to open in New England for 2019.
It is being co-managed by the New Plymouth Cinematheque and the Newmarket Cinematheques, both located in New Plymouth.NZFC chief executive Ian Roberts said the company wanted to open “a unique, high-end, family-friendly cinema that will provide a unique venue for people to come together and have fun”.
“Our aim is to offer a fun and engaging cinema experience to the community,” he said.
“It is our aim to have a welcoming and welcoming atmosphere that is family-oriented and inclusive.”
Roberts said the project was funded through the New Markets’ National Film Fund.NZFFC was established in the 1990s to support the development of the arts in New South Wales.
The National Film Scheme, which allows for films of interest to the local community, was established as a part of that.
The NZFC has made several films, including the critically acclaimed film ‘I’m Not the First’ and the Oscar-winning ‘Oscar-nominated’, “Cinemastrophes”.
In January, NZFC co-president, Rob Gorman, said the organisation was pleased to announce a new partnership with Newmarket Cinema.
“Newmarket Cinema is a very special place to be and we look forward to the exciting future ahead for the New Market,” Gorman said.
“The New Market is home to cinema, theatre and art.
We are thrilled to be a part the NZFC.”
