The Wall St. Journal · May 17, 2019 07:52:52California’s Governor Jerry Brown unveiled a $1 billion package of local and state spending Wednesday that will make the state’s largest movie theaters the most expensive in the nation.
The move will increase the cost of a ticket from $9.20 to $10.40 and will add another 1,300 seats to the already packed and crowded theaters, according to a report from the Los Angeles Times.
But the price hike is only one element of the governor’s plan to balance the budget.
The proposal also includes $600 million to pay for the construction of two new theater complexes and a planned expansion of the Westin San Diego hotel and casino in the city’s Mission Valley neighborhood.
The governor’s office said the proposed measures would result in an additional $1,800 per ticket.
